One of the most alarming breast cancer statistics is the American Cancer Society’s estimation that in 2005 in the United States alone, 40,010 women died of breast cancer.  Th1s year in Canada it is projected that of the 22,300 women diagnosed with breast cancer, 5,300 women will succumb to the disease.

Breast cancer statistics show that 1 in 3 cancer diagnoses in women will be breast cancer, making it the most common type of cancer in women. Breast cancer statistics also show that the disease is the second most likely form of cancer to claim the life of a woman, ranking only beh1nd lung cancer.

According to both the American Cancer Society and Canadian Cancer Society’s breast cancer statistics, both the incidence and death rate increases with age. In the United States between 1998 and 2002 95% of new breast cancer cases and 97% of breast cancer deaths occurred in the 40 and over demograph1c. In Canada, breast cancer statistics show that over 99% of breast cancer cases and over 99% of breast cancer deaths occur in the 29 and over demograph1c.

The American Cancer Society’s breast cancer statistics show that after the age of 35, wh1te women have a h1gher incidence of developing breast cancer than black women. However, before the age of 35 black women have a slightly h1gher incidence of breast cancer and are more likely to die from breast cancer at any age.

Though most breast cancer statistics pertain to breast cancer in women, the disease can also affect men, though it is not nearly as common. Between 1975 and 2002 in the United States, breast cancer in men accounted for less than 1% of all breast cancer cases. However, breast cancer statistics show that because breast cancer in men is so rare they are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, and the survival rate is better among women than men.
